Data extraction

Data extraction (cost effectiveness)

Extraction of cost-effectiveness data relating to many of the selected interventions was possible from the systematic reviews and HTAs commissioned during the development of NICE guidance.

Where multiple interventions were reported in these reviews only the data relating to the selected intervention was extracted. This data may have come from a primary study and where this was available in the review documentation the effectiveness, cost data and incremental cost effectiveness estimates were extracted for these key papers.

Measures of effectiveness reported in the cost effectiveness analysis were also extracted where reported in the identified review. The quality of underlying research was extracted first from the review and reassessed using full text documents retrieved later.

The following data was extracted from reviews: author, date, intervention, population, effect data, analysis method, and economic results. This data was supplemented with reviews of primary studies.

Data extraction (effectiveness)

Extraction of effectiveness data relating to many of the selected interventions was also possible from the systematic reviews and HTAs commissioned during the development of NICE guidance

Where limited effectiveness data were available from cost-effectiveness studies, potentially relevant effectiveness results were extracted from high quality systematic reviews or meta-analyses.
